Le périmètre de construction a été défini et, mi-mai, les premières fouilles vont débuter. Autant dire que le premier chapitre de la construction de la nouvelle Bibliothèque nationale, sur le plateau du Kirchberg, sera bientôt écrit.
L'ouverture est prévue courant 2018. D'ici là, d'importants travaux de terrassement vont d'abord devoir être réalisés, sur un site qui se trouve à l'intersection de l'avenue J.F. Kennedy et du boulevard Konrad Adenauer.
A l'heure actuelle, la Bibliothèque nationale est répartie sur quatre sites. La nouvelle Bibliothèque nationale les unifiera sur un seul site, d'une superficie au sol de 24.029 mètres carrés.
